About the Event
Open Christchurch is an annual one-weekend-only festival of exceptional architecture. It’s for everyone in Christchurch.
The 2025 programme is serving up 51 open buildings to explore and 40+ activities for learning more from expert talks and tours to workshops.
Over the course of 2-4 May, building owners/kaitiaki of 51 buildings throw open their doors so that locals and visitors can enjoy a first-hand experience of great design, from the inside.
The university has three buildings open on Sunday 4 May, 11am-2pm: Puaka-James Hight Central سԹ, Beatrice Tinsley and Ernest Rutherford. Activities include architecture tours and an all ages, all abilities creative exploration of the campus.
College House, سԹ Hall of Residence, is open 3-4 May for tours, booking only.
The MacMillan Brown سԹ is also open for free 45-minute tours on Sunday 4 May, 11am and 12pm. Bookings essential. Head into the archives with Mountfort expert Ian Lochhead and archivist Erin Kimber. Get up close to Mountfort’s original drawings and consider his use of the Gothic Revival style in a local context.
for more information.
Open Christchurch is a celebration of our stories, people, places, designers and innovators. Make sure you are in Christchurch on 2-4 May 2025 to be part of it.
The سԹ is a place of learning, discussion, and free expression. As part of our commitment to academic freedom, protests or demonstrations may occur on campus. This is a natural aspect of university life, and we encourage respectful dialogue while ensuring a safe environment for all visitors.
