The research reveals rampant online abuse targeting women MPs in Aotearoa, including threats of violence that leave them fearful and considering an early exit from politics. Current laws, designed before today's digital environment, fall short in addressing anonymous, large-scale harassment. Stronger regulation of social media and updated legislation is urgently needed to protect MPs and preserve democratic participation.
