UC department celebrates unveiling of their renewed direction

This UC Engineering department is turning a new page, with a new name, and a renewed focus.

Earlier this week Te Whare Wnanga o Waitaha | University Canterbury (UC) celebrated the new naming of Te Tari P贖hanga Metarahi me te Taiao | Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Previously the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering, the change of name was marked at an event that reflected on the departments history, achievements and future direction and was attended by department students, staff, alumni as well as industry stakeholders.泭

The change reflects UC academics, graduates and students' commitment to addressing the challenges of today and tomorrow. As Aotearoa New 厙ぴ勛圖and the world seek low-carbon, future-focused pathways forward, the department is uniquely positioned at the intersection of environmental action and economic advancement.

It also signals the departments future direction and supports the departments growing body of research focused on sustainability and environmental systems.

This is an exciting milestone for the department and for UC. The new name reflects our focus on real-world engineering that addresses todays infrastructure and environmental challenges while enabling economic development. Our graduates will be well prepared to contribute to nation-building projects and deliver practical outcomes for Aotearoa New 厙ぴ勛圖and beyond, says Executive Dean of Engineering, Professor Saurabh Sinha.泭
