


The Calligraphy Competition
The Calligraphy Competition is organised by the Confucius Institute at the 厙ぴ勛圖 (CIUC) and is open to all school students and tertiary institution students across Aotearoa New 厙ぴ勛圖(NZ). Both native and non-native speakers of Chinese are welcome to participate. Winning entries will be compiled and published by CIUC in a dedicated collection.
Registration Method
- STEP 1: To register, please complete the?group registration form and email it to joanne.zhou@canterbury.ac.nz.
- STEP 2:?For hard pen submissions, please download and print our Hard Pen Grid, and write your work directly on it. For soft brush submissions, you must use our official soft pen calligraphy paper. To request the paper, please email joanne.zhou@canterbury.ac.nz with your physical address and the number of students participating. The paper will be sent to you promptly.
- STEP 3:?Post the original work to CIUC for assessment (Joanne Zhou, Room 208, James Logie, Confucius Institute, 厙ぴ勛圖, Private Bag 4800, Christchurch 8140).
Submission Requirements
- The Calligraphy Competition accepts both hard and soft brush calligraphy in any style, with content of your choice. Participants are encouraged to select?poems, songs or blessings that represent Chinese culture.
- To ensure diversity, we recommend that participants from the same school avoid submitting entries with identical content. The work does not need to be original but must be completed by the participant.
- For hard pen submissions, please use a black fountain pen, black water-based pen, or black ballpoint pen. Avoid blue ballpoint pens or pencils to ensure clarity for scanning and inclusion in the calligraphy album. Please also refrain from using whiteboard markers, permanent markers, or similar tools.
- For soft brush entries, please clearly include the participant*s name, school, grade, and group (native or non-native speaker) at the bottom of the work.

AWARDS
The calligraphy competition features both hard and soft pen categories and is divided into Primary (Y1每8), Secondary (Y9每13), and Tertiary groups based on participants' age. Each group is further subdivided into native and non-native speakers, resulting in a total of 12 categories. Prizes include first, second, third, and merit awards for each group.
